Dan graduated from UQ in 1993 with First Class Honours and a University Medal. He completed his specialist training in the UK before co-founding the WA Lung Transplant Program. Dan is Professor of Medicine and Deputy Head of School at UQ. He is an internationally recognised leader in lung fibrosis and transplantation and was the first Australian to Direct the International Thoracic Organ Transplant Registry. His clinical trial site at Wallace Street Specialist Centre is one of the world’s largest. Dan has been recognised as one of Australia’s top researchers and a leading researcher in the field of transplantation for each of the past 5 years. His research program has attracted more than $25 million in competitive funding, and he has authored more than 200 research papers. Dan has also played a leading role in advancing the understanding and treatment of silicosis in Australia and was recognised as a Lung Health Legend by Lung Foundation Australia for his contribution to interstitial lung disease and silicosis. His special interests include interstitial lung disease, chronic cough, complex lung disease, silicosis and lung transplantation. Outside medicine, he enjoys snow skiing and running.
